Both aromatherapy and massage focus on treating the person as whole being, as opposed to treating a specific disease (a holistic approach to treatment). I believe this is vital to wellbeing as the body is a complete system, where each part of the body interacts with the other parts. So for instance if you hurt your leg and can’t walk for some time, this can have an impact to other areas – you may feel down due to the limited mobility (emotional/psychological impact); or you may gain extra weight as you cannot exercise the same as you did before the accident (Physical impact on other parts of the body). Similarly I strongly believe that a large amount of illness is directly linked to stress. So anything we can do to reduce stress and promote mental wellbeing should be at least considered.
